In order to consolidate all of the rules into one place and to make sure the new rules are put into place here are the official rules for the Dynasty Hockey League for the 2021-22 season. You can either open the attachment or search through the post for whatever rule you are looking for. If you have questions or notice an error/omission please let me or Adam know. (This will be reformatted over time to make it more palatable to the eye but I ain't got time for that noise today, so...)

1. TERMINOLOGY
- Players:
TERM Player - Players that have been signed to a contract by a Dynasty team. Applicable to Major and Minor League roster players.
EL Player - (Entry Level) Players that have been drafted by a Dynasty team, and are still playing on their Dynasty team's draft contract.
FA - (Free Agent) Players that are not in any Dynasty team's possession. Free to be signed by any Dynasty team.
- Rosters:
Team - Your entire organization, made up of all the players in your possession. All Major/Minor League players, and all your EL players.
Major - Your 23-man roster made up of your active 4 C, 4 LW, 4 RW,6 D, 1 G and 4 Bench players.
Minor - Your 17-man roster made up of reserve players in your possession. This can be a mix of both TERM and EL players.
- League Events:
Open Bidding Free Agency - Player auctions are created by the managers of the league. Any eligible player that has not already been auctioned can be put up for auction. You place the first bid on any auctions you wish to create.
Cervenka Summit – Annual online meeting to discuss potential rules changes or modifications to the league. Meeting is typically held during the All-Star Break or Olympic break, depending on the NHL calendar that year, and will be announce at least one month in advance by the Commissioner. All proposals to be discussed should be posted in advance in the ‘Cervenka Summit Proposals’ post in the ‘News and Discussion’ page of the DHL message boards.
2. BUDGET
- Each team is allotted a budget of $275 in funds per season. This is how much money each team has available to them for spending on players, Major and Minor, at any point of the season. Roster Payroll is the combined salary of all players eligible for a salary in a given season, and this figure must be equal to or less than the Total Funds figure in the current season.
o A team's Roster Payroll may exceed their Total Funds figure of a future season, but must become financially compliant by the start of the start of a new active season. If this has not been done, that team will be locked and will forfeit every matchup until they are compliant or the Commissioner will take steps to make the team financially compliant.
o Unspent salary does not carry over to the next season. (E.g. If you are allocated $275 but only spend $270 on all players in both your MAJOR and MINOR roster the remaining $5 will expire at the end of the season and will not carry over to increase your allotted salary for the next season to $280.)
- Salary can be used in trades for the current, or future seasons. It will be represented on the spreadsheet by an increase or decrease on the Total Funds for those teams on the specified year(s).
- Any one team may not have a Total Funds figure higher than the salary cap of $300 in a single season. Any trade that puts a team's Total Funds over the salary cap figure is an invalid trade.
- EL PLAYERS
o EL Players will progress on the following pay scale in the Dynasty Hockey League:
less than 1 year of service: $0
at least 1 year of service but less than 2: $1
at least 2 years of service but less than 3: $2
at least 3 years of service but less than 4: $5
at least 4 years of service but less than 5: $8
at least 5 years of service but less than 6: $12
o A “year of service” is determined by using Total NHL Games Played (Regular Season only).
Skaters have a mark of 41 games and Goalies have a mark of 25 games.
Each offseason, every EL Player is checked to see if they've reached the minimum games played mark (41/25) to begin climbing the salary scale. If they have not, they remain at $0 for the following season.
If a player has reached the minimum NHL regular season games played for their position they will advance to the second pay tier ($1). The pay scale will continue to advance each year regardless of whether or not he plays any additional games in the NHL.
DHL utilization has no impact on qualifying for salary. Whether a player is used on your Major roster or not their salary will begin the season after they've hit their Minimum Games Played mark and will continue to progress each year thereafter.
• Example: Ilya Lyubushkin played exactly 41 games in the 2018/2019 season. In our league, if you drafted Lyubushkin in the 2018 Draft he would have cost you $0 in our 2018-19 season. Because he played in 41 NHL games his contract would be activated for our 2019-20 season and would cost you $1 even if he never played in the NHL again (with the exception of death or retirement) and was never promoted to your Major roster. In our 2020-21 season he would cost you $2. In our 2021-22 season he would cost you $5. In our 2022-23 season he would cost you $8. In our 2024-25 season he would cost you $12 and following that season he would be automatically released from your roster and would become a UFA in our league.
3. ROSTERS
- During the regular season and playoffs all teams must have a Major roster that includes the following:
o 4 Centers
o 4 Left Wings
o 4 Right Wings
o 6 Defensemen
o 2 Goalies
- If a team’s Major roster does not meet those requirements on any given day in the regular season or playoffs the stats they accrue that day will not count towards their totals in the weekly matchup.
- In addition to the 20 spots listed above, which are required, each team is given 3 bench spots to use for skaters (centers, left wings, right wings or defensemen) every day of the regular season and playoffs.
o Teams are not required to use any of the bench spots provided for their skaters.
- In addition to the 20 Major roster spots and 3 bench spots mentioned earlier each team is given 17 Minor roster spots. These can be used for any player – TERM Players or EL Players – but are not mandatory to use. The use of these spots is entirely up to each individual team.
- Each team is allowed a maximum of 3 TERM Player goalies at any given time, either during the season or in the offseason. There are no other limits of any kind on the number of TERM Players you can have at any other position nor any restriction on the number of EL Players you can have at any position, including goalie.
4. STAT CATEGORIES
- For the 2021-22 season we will use the following scoring categories for each weekly matchup in the regular season and playoffs:
o SKATER CATEGORIES:
Goals
Assists
Plus/Minus
Shots on Goal
Special Teams Points
Hits
Blocked Shots
• This will only count the number of shots on goal your skaters make and will not include saves your goalies make.
Time on Ice per game
• This will take the sum total of ice time your skaters accrue that week and divide it by the number of games your skaters played to establish an average amount of ice time per game for your roster that week.
o GOALIE CATEGORIES:
Wins
Goals Against Average
• This will be determined by the total number of goals your goalies allow that week multiplied by 60 and then divided by the number of minutes your goalies played that week.
Save Percentage
• This will be determined by the total number of saves your goalies made that week divided by the total number of shots they faced. Saves made by any of your skaters will not count in this category but will be counted in blocked shots.
Total Saves
o Any offensive stats your goalies accrue will not be included in your offensive totals. E.g. – If your goalie scores an empty net goal, is credited with a hit, gets an assist or earns a point on a power play or shorthanded goal you will not get credit for that in any of the corresponding skater categories.
o Your goalies time on ice will not be included in your teams time on ice total in the skater category.
o If your skater is pressed into duty as a goalie for any reason the stats he accrues as a goalie will not be included in your goalie totals for that week.
o In order to accrue stats in any category the following criteria must be met:
You must have the player on your Major roster and in an active spot (i.e – not in a bench spot)
You must be cap compliant (See Budget rules)
You must be roster compliant (see Roster rules)
5. DRAFT
- Draft Format and Procedure
o The Entry Level Player Draft (a.k.a. EL Player Draft) takes place before the start of each regular season and is considered the official start of our Dynasty season.
o The draft will include 5 Rounds and each team will be given one pick per round per season.
o Each manager will have 24 hours to make their selection once a pick they own goes "on the clock". If the manager fails to make a selection within 24 hours the draft will advance to the next pick. If your draft pick was passed over in this manner you may make your bypassed selection at any time simply by posting a pick as listed below.
o Selections are to be made in the "Player Drafts" section of the DHL message board. When it is your turn to pick go to the specific year of the draft, then to the specific round, and post your selection by replying to the thread with your draft choice. The post announcing your pick must include the following:
Player's full name
Player's position (per Fantrax)
Player's NHL Team
E.g. - Joey Moss, D, Edmonton Oilers
o If you wish to bypass your selection for any reason (lack of an open roster spot, no player that interests you or you wish to defer it for use at a later date) simply post a message that explains your intention to defer the pick and your pick will immediately be bypassed putting the next manager on the clock to make a selection. You may defer picks at any point in the draft and do not have to wait until you are on the clock.
If you elect to Defer a draft pick, it is not eligible to be used until after the on-going EL Player Draft itself concludes.
All draft picks that are deferred (either due to time expiration or manager decision) must be used by the Deferred Pick Deadline, November 30th at 11:59pmET/8:59pmPT, in the year that draft has taken place. At that point, any and all draft picks still unused simply expire.
o If a draft pick is traded while it is “on the clock” the 24 hour clock will reset and the new owner will have a full 24 hours from the time the trade is processed to make their selection.
You must wait until the trade is processed before making your pick as there is a review process that must take place and this will avoid advancing the draft before a trade is certified as league compliant and approved.
If a bypassed/deferred pick is traded and will not clear the league review process before the Deferred Pick Deadline (11:59pmET/8:59pmPT on November 30th) the manager that is receiving the pick will have a chance to make their selection after the deadline has passed once the league review process has concluded.
- Draft Lottery and Draft Picks
o To discourage tanking, there will be a lottery before each EL Player Draft to randomize the draft positions to start Round 1. The 1st Round Pick of each non-playoff team from the previous season will be represented in the draw, and the order of selections #1-5 will be based on the following results:
First team drawn selects 5th overall
Second team drawn selects 4th overall
Third team drawn selects 3rd overall
Fourth team drawn selects **1st overall**
Last team remaining selects **2nd overall**
o Positions #6-12 will be determined by the previous season's playoff results:
6th overall – Team eliminated in Quarterfinals with lowest regular season winning percentage
7th overall – Team eliminated in Quarterfinals with lowest regular season winning percentage
8th overall – Team eliminated in Quarterfinals with highest regular season winning percentage
9th overall – Team eliminated in Semifinals with lowest regular season winning percentage
10th overall – Team eliminated in Semifinals with highest regular season winning percentage
11th overall – Playoff Runner-up
12th overall – Playoff Champion
o The lottery results only apply to Round 1, and draft position in all remaining Rounds will be determined by the reverse order of regular season standings/playoff results from the previous season.
o As previously mentioned, each team is assigned a single draft pick for each Round of the draft per season. Only 2 seasons worth of draft picks will exist at any one time. The picks of the current season and the following season will exist before the draft, and only when the Deferred Pick Deadline passes will the subsequent season's draft picks be assigned to each team (as all outstanding selections of the current season will now be resolved).
o Once you are given your draft picks for future seasons they can be traded as you see fit up until the moment they expire. You cannot trade picks for years that have not yet been given to you.
- Section 3: EL Player Eligibility and Information
o Players eligible to be selected must meet 1 of the 3 following conditions:
They have been drafted by an NHL team and are still on their NHL Entry Level contract.
They have been drafted by an NHL team, have yet to be signed to their NHL Entry Level contract but are still eligible to do so (Younger than 25).
They were an NHL Undrafted Free Agent that is currently still signed to an NHL Entry Level contract.
• This can be easily found out by going to www.capfriendly.com and searching for the player.
• If their CURRENT CONTRACT lists the type as "ENTRY-LEVEL CONTRACT", or if they have an "EL" listed to the right of their name, then they are still on their EL contract and are eligible to be drafted in our league. All other players are ineligible to be drafted in our league.
o A player previously signed to a TERM contract that has expired or been terminated is eligible to be selected as long as he is still deemed to be eligible as defined above. There are no restrictions and the team that signed him to a TERM contract in the past may still draft the player.
o If a player is EL RELEASED, is not claimed by another team, is a free agent in the DHL AND still qualifies for our draft as explained above that player is considered to still be draft eligible. However, the team that most recently EL RELEASED the player cannot draft the player.
6. FREE AGENCY
- Free Agency will be held each offseason at a date to be determined by the Commissioner. The starting date is to be announced no less than two weeks before the start of free agency to allow teams time to prepare, confirm their roster/funds are accurate or make any final transactions.
- Free agency will end on the DHL Trade/Signing Deadline.
- To start an auction on a player go to the Free Agent Bidding section of the DHL Message Boards and open up a new thread in the appropriate board of that respective player's position. The player must be eligible for that position in Fantrax for the current season.
o Please use the following style guide when creating a new auction:
Subject of Thread: Player Name - Position (E.g. – Joey Moss – D)
The first post in that auction should simply be a link to the player’s profile on Fantrax.
The second option, which must be posted soon after the first post, should be your bid using this format:
• $ per year / number of years you are signing him to / total value of contract
o E.g - $6 / 3y / $18
Any subsequent bids for that same player are to be submitted in a reply to that same thread with a larger bid than the previous.
o All bids must be a minimum of 1 year at $1.
o There is a maximum of 5y for all Free Agent bids
o The maximum value of a contract per year is $275 as that is the annual salary cap per team, per year.
o There will be a minimum annual salary for multi-year contracts according to the years offered.
2 year contracts must have a minimum salary of $3 ($3 / 2y / $6)
3 year contracts must have a minimum salary of $6 ($6 / 3y / $18)
4 year contracts must have a minimum salary of $12 ($12 / 4y / $48)
5 year contracts must have a minimum salary of $24 ($24 / 5y / $120)
o The highest total value of the contract will be considered the highest bid.
E.g. – If $9 / 2y / $18 is the current highest bid on a player a bid of $7 / 3y / $21 would be considered a higher bid.
o If the total value of two bids are equal the higher annual cost will be considered the highest bid.
E.g – If $6 / 3y / $18 is the current highest bid on a player a bid of $9 / 2y / $18 would be considered a higher bid.
o Any threads that attempt to start an auction on a player already under contract, or involve a player already in an active auction, will be deleted.
o If you are bidding on a player that is eligible for our EL Player Draft, it will cost a minimum of $5 per year you are signing them to.
$5 / 1y / $5
$5 / 2y / $10
$6 / 3y / $18
$12 / 4y / $48
$24 / 5y / $120
• For EL eligible players only you could not outbid $5 / 1y / $5 with $4 / 2y / $8. While in normal circumstances this would be a valid bid because the annual salary is lower than $5 it is invalid bid for an EL eligible player.
o A bid must stand as the highest bid for 24 hours before that player is signed to that teams roster.
If a bid is beaten by a higher bid at any point within the 24 hours the clock is reset at 24 hours for the new bid.
o Only 4 auctions per position are allowed at a time.
If you start an auction on a 5th player at a position on the boards that auction will be invalid and deleted.
o All bids are final. You may not delete or change any bids you have made, so please think carefully before making them.
If you make a clerical error in your bid (Your bid isn't in-fact higher than the previous bid, you don't add up your totals properly, you put the wrong term, etc.), please DO NOT modify it yourself.
In that instance please start a second, new post with the corrected information, and notify an administrator. An administrator will take care of the mistake. Any bid that has been modified by anyone other than an administrator will be considered invalid.
o If you bid in/start an auction, but wouldn't have the roster spots to accommodate that player if you were to win (including any other outstanding auctions as well), you must disclose a Conditional EL RELEASE along with your bid.
This is done by naming an EL Player from your roster that will be EL RELEASED in the event of a win. If no EL Player is disclosed your bid will be considered invalid.
• E.g
$3 / 2y / $6
If I win this auction, I will EL Release Roman Cervenka
o If your team does not have enough funds for a bid before the Conditional EL Release, but would after the event of a conditional EL Release, then that bid is valid. However, if your disclosed EL Player's salary would not clear enough funds for your bid to be compliant, then your bid is invalid.
o Any bids that would bring your Roster Payroll above your Total Funds for the current season are automatically invalid.
7. BUYOUTS/WAIVERS
- At any time you may get rid of a player on your team using one of the following options:
o Waivers
o Buyout
o EL Release
- These can all be accessed in the “Transactions” portion of the DHL message board in the “Terminations” folder.
- Please use the provided template in the Terminations folder to create your post.
- WAIVERS:
o Placing a player on waivers will give all other teams 48 hours to claim him at his current contract.
If a team claims the player, then at the end of the 48 hours the player would automatically transfer to the new teams’ roster with his contract intact. Placing a claim is binding - you may not retract a claim once you have made it.
• If more than one team claims him the team that has the lowest winning percentage in the current standings would get the player.
o If there are no current standings the team that finished lower in the final standings from the previous season would be used.
o If the teams are tied in either the current standings or final standings the team that claimed him first would get the player.
If no team claims him the player remains on your team with his current contract intact.
- BUYOUT:
o Buying out a player also places him on waivers for 48 hours and the same waivers rules as listed above apply with one difference.
If no team claims the player then he is removed from your roster but his salary is not taken of your books.
• E.g – you buyout Jason Blake who you had signed to a $6 / 3y / $18 contract. If he is not claimed he’s removed from your roster to open up a roster spot but you still owe him $6 in each of the three years and do not get back any of that salary or cap space.
Buying out a player immediately opens up a roster spot on your team as you no longer have any claim to that player.
You must drop the player from your roster on Fantrax immediately upon posting your intention to buyout his contract.
- EL RELEASE:
o EL Players may be released (called an "EL Release") at any time to refund their salary and to open up a Roster Slot.
The player's salary is refunded to the owning team's funds immediately (even during the season), and the player then enters waivers for 48 hours subject to the same waivers rules as listed above.
o Each season, a week before the DHL Trade/Signing Deadline, an EL Reclamation Deadline will take place. Any players EL Release after the specified date and time of the EL Reclamation Deadline will be ineligible to be re-signed by the team that EL Released them (at least until the Free Agency Bidding Window reopens in the off-season).
EL Players can still be EL Released as normal beyond the EL Reclamation Deadline (teams regain the roster slot and funds from EL Releasing a valid player) but are essentially off-limits to the team that chose to let them go.
The EL Released player is available for bidding by other teams up until the Signing Deadline, but if they are signed that player cannot be traded to any team through the Trade Deadline (to prevent any acts of collusion).
8. TRADES
- You may trade any player, draft pick or amount of cap space you have at any time between the start of the Offseason and the Trade Deadline.
o No trades of any kind are allowed between the Trade Deadline and the start of the following season’s offseason.
- Once a trade is agreed upon post it on the boards in the “Transactions” portion of the DHL message board in the “Trades” folder. Either team involved in the trade can created the post and must use the template provided within the Trades folder.
- Once posted all teams involved in the trade must post “Agreed” as a reply to the original post.
- Once all teams involved have agreed to the terms of the trade there will be a 24 hour review to make sure the trade is valid before it is processed.
o If you feel that a trade is unfair, post “VETO” as a reply to the trade post and send a private message to the commissioner with an explanation of why you believe the trade should be vetoed. If the commissioner receives 5 or more private messages from teams wishing to veto the trade with satisfactory explanations within 24 hours of the trade being posted, the commissioner will then create a poll for the league to vote on whether or not to allow the trade.
- Once the 24 hour review process is complete, and if the trade does not violate any roster or salary rules in place, the trade will be processed on both Fantrax and the league spreadsheet.
9. MATCHES/GAMES/TIEBREAKERS
- For the 2021-22 season each regular season matchup will be a weekly, head-to-head matchup between two teams.
o The week will begin on Sunday and end on Saturday
o The regular season will be 19 weeks long beginning on October 12, 2021 and ending on March 27, 2021
o Some weeks will be more than seven days due to the Olympic Break, All-Star Break or other league schedule interruptions in games. Check Fantrax for details on specific dates for each weekly matchup.
- Each team must have a minimum of three goalie starts per matchup. If you do not have three goalie starts in a given week you will forfeit all four goalie categories that week.
- Whichever team wins more scoring categories in a matchup will be considered the winner of that match.
o If the match ends in a tie in the regular season it is declared a tie in the standings.
o If the match ends in a tie in the playoffs it will be broken in the following order:
First - The team with the better Head-to-Head versus record for the season will be declared the winner.
Second - Should their Head-to-Head versus records be the same, the team with the better regular season division record will be declared the winner.
Third - Should their regular season division records be the same, the winning team will be based on who had the better category score in this order G > A > STP > W > SV% > GAA > SV > SOG > +/- > Hit > Blk > TOI/G
Fourth - Should both teams have the exact same scores in every category, the home team (a.k.a. higher seed) will be declared the winner.
10. WEEKLY TRANSACTIONS
- Each matchup (a.k.a. "period" or "week"), you are allowed to make a maximum of 3 transactions. The weekly transaction count will reset every Sunday at 2:59amEST/Saturday at 11:59pmPST. As a rule of thumb, "Transactions" are essentially roster moves that ADD player(s) to your MAJOR roster/active roster. Subtracting/Releasing a player from your MAJOR roster will generally not use a transaction.
o Transactions include:
A PROMOTION (Bringing a player from your MINORS to the MAJORS).
Adding an IR Replacement for an IR-Eligible player on your MAJOR roster (MINOR roster players cannot be placed on IR). As mentioned in the IR Replacement rules, this can be an unsigned FA, or someone internally from your MINOR roster. If you are replacing internally from your MINOR roster, each time you change your IR Replacement, it counts as it's own transaction.
Adding a new FA signing or drafted player to your MAJOR roster.
o Any further transactions that take place on a team that has already used their 3 transactions in a match-up will be deemed invalid.
- When you complete a transaction, make a new thread on the message boards in the appropriate board detailing your move. This is very important and done for record-keeping purposes. It also works as a way to have everything reviewed for validity purposes as well. After making the thread, you are able to carry the transaction out on Fantrax.
- The message board will be deemed the ruling method for a transaction (a.k.a. "dibs"), if 2 different managers try to pick-up the same FA as an IR Replacement, as an example.
11. INJURED RESERVE
- Section 1: IR Replacement Qualifiers and Procedure
o If a player on your MAJOR roster becomes injured during the season, you can place them on IR on Fantrax, and select a player from your Minor roster to fill in for them until the injured player returns.
o The replacement player HAS to be a similar position to the injured player he is replacing. Forward for Forward (C or either Wing), Defenseman for Defenseman, Goalie for Goalie.
o When placing a player on IR on FanTrax, please make a post in the IR Replacements section (under “Transactions”) over on the message board to indicate you are doing so. Please communicate who you are putting on IR, and who their chosen IR Replacement is.
o Selecting an IR Replacement costs 1 Transaction, deducted from your team's weekly total. When the original player becomes healthy again, they may be returned to the line-up at no further Transaction cost. The chosen IR Replacement must be returned to the Minor roster as part of this move.
o If you would like to exchange your chosen IR Replacement at any point during the IR duty, you may spend 1 weekly Transaction to select a different player from your Minors to serve as an IR Replacement. This can be done multiple times at the cost of 1 Transaction per replacement
A Minor IR Replacement player cannot be placed on IR themselves (as they are not officially on the Major roster). If an IR Replacement becomes IR-eligible, the team is welcome to exchange that IR Replacement for a different Minor player, who becomes the new IR Replacement for the original injury.
When an injured player is activated from the NHL's IR, managers are permitted a grace period before having to return their injured player back to the line-up (3 consecutive NHL games played). This gives managers time to make any needed roster decisions before the player comes back, while also giving them some assurance that the original player is healthy again. However, DHL managers are welcome to return their players to duty earlier than that if they see fit.
• If the original player plays 1 or 2 games, but then misses the next, you are not required to activate your injured player, or DEMOTE your chosen IR Replacement. The game count will reset and start counting to 3 when they once again return.
• IR Replacement GOALTENDERS function the same way, but ALL games played by the original player will count, whether consecutive or not (meaning games dressed, even in a back-up role).
• If a recently healthy player is returns to game action but is suspended before they reach their 3rd consecutive game, each game missed due to suspension counts as a consecutive game for the purposes of their replacement eligibility.
• If an IR Replacement is still on a roster after the original player has played 3 consecutive games, the commissioner will forcibly DEMOTE the IR Replacement, and put the original player back on the bench, no matter the consequences this may have on a team's set lines.
• This rule may be difficult to keep tabs on, so if you notice an IR Replacement is being kept in violation of the rules, please notify the commissioner of the infraction so it can be rectified.
o If a player currently on IR is traded in our league, the IR Replacement must be DEMOTED. The team receiving the injured player can assign that player to their IR and select an IR Replacement at no additional Transaction cost, if indicated and performed at the time of the trade.
- Section 2: Free Agent IR Replacement Option for Goalies [F.A.I.R.]
o Due to the restrictive nature of Goaltending in our league, they are eligible to operate differently when it comes to the IR Replacement rules. Managers may follow the default IR Replacement procedures as stated for other positional players (selecting a Goalie from their MINOR roster), but managers may opt to instead choose a Free Agent IR Replacement Goalie instead.
o Selecting a Free Agent IR Replacement Goalie costs 1 Transaction, the same as traditional IR Replacement selections.
All Free Agent Goalies are available for IR Replacement duty, with a few exceptions:
• Any Free Agent Goalie currently being used by another team in a FAIR situation is not available.
• Any Free Agent Goalie that is currently involved in an on-going auction is not available.
• Any Goalie currently involved in the BUYOUT/WAIVER process cannot be selected until that process has completed.
o When placing a Goalie on IR on FanTrax, please make a post in the IR Replacements section (under TRANSACTIONS) over on the message board to indicate you are doing so. Please communicate who you are putting on IR, and who their chosen IR Replacement is.
o While being utilized for FAIR duty, a Goalie must remain on the MAJOR roster at all times. As they are not official property of their team, they cannot be demoted, or involved in any trades.
o When the original Goalie becomes healthy again, they may be returned to the line-up at no further Transaction cost. The chosen IR Replacement must be returned to the Free Agenct pool as part of this move.
o If you would like to exchange your chosen FAIR Goalie at any point during the IR duty, you may spend *3* weekly Transactions to select a different Goalie from Free Agency to serve as an IR Replacement. This can be done multiple times, costing 3 Transaction per replacement. The 3 transactions spent must all be from the same match-up.
o A FAIR Goalie cannot be placed on IR themselves (as they are not officially on the MAJOR roster, nor property of the team utilizing them). If a FAIR Goalie becomes IR-eligible while on duty, the team is welcome to exchange that IR Replacement for a different FAIR Goalie, OR a Goalie from their MINORS, at the cost of 1 Transaction. This player becomes the new IR Replacement for the original injury.
o When an injured Goalie is activated from the NHL's IR, managers are permitted a grace period before having to return their injured Goalie back to the line-up (3 consecutive NHL games dressed for goalies, not 3 consecutive games played). This gives managers time to make any needed roster decisions before the Goalie comes back, while also giving them some assurance that the original Goalie is healthy again. Howver, DHL managers are welcome to return their Goalie to duty earlier than that if they see fit.
o If the original Goalie dresses for 1 or 2 games, but then misses the next, you are not required to activate your injured Goalie, or return your FAIR Goalie to Free Agency. The game count will reset and start counting to 3 when they once again return.
o If a recently-healthy Goalie returns to game action, but is suspended before they reach their 3rd consecutive game dressed, each game missed due to suspension counts as a consecutive game for the purposes of their replacement eligibility.
o If a FAIR Goalie is still on a team's roster after the original Goalie has dressed for 3 consecutive games, the commissioner will forcibly return the FAIR Goalie to Free Agency, and put the original Goalie back on the bench, no matter the consequences this may have on a team's set lines.
o This rule may be difficult to keep tabs on, so if you notice a FAIR Goalie is being kept in violation of the rules, please notify the commissioner of the infraction so it can be rectified.
o If a Goalie currently on IR is traded in our league, the FAIR Goalie must be returned to Free Agency. The team receiving the injured Goalie can assign that player to their IR and select a FAIR Goalie at no additional Transaction cost, if indicated and performed at the time of the trade.
12. PLAYOFFS
- The top 7 teams in the overall regular season standings will enter the playoffs with the top ranking team having a bye in the first week. This means the first round match-ups will be:
o 1st – BYE
o 2nd v 7th
o 3rd v 6th
o 4th v 5th
- The second round will be re-seeded so that the 1st seed will play the lowest remaining seed and the other two teams will meet in the other semifinal matchup.
13. RETIREMENT
- Players who retire from the NHL will have their contracts voided. If the player retires midseason, managers are responsible for the salary for the rest of that current season, but not subsequent years. If a player retires during the off-season (I.E. before Game 1 of the NHL regular season), that player can be removed from the spreadsheet/roster immediately on a manager's request to do so. There must be clear, confirmed evidence to support a player's status as "retired".
- If a player officially retires from the NHL to play elsewhere (i.e. Ilya Kovalchuk situation with the Devils), that still counts towards meeting the requisite of the player retiring in the DHL.
- If a player is under contract in our league but is not playing in the NHL for any reason other than official NHL retirement that player's Dynasty contract is still valid for the remainder of the contract's TERM.

1. TERMINOLOGY
