a) To place a player on waivers, a manager has to go the the Waivers section of the board and start a post stating which player they are waiving. This player can be on either a MAJOR or MINOR roster. Alternatively, you can choose to put the player on BUYOUT waivers, immediately giving you an open roster spot for that player (but not freeing you of his salary).
b) Once a player is placed on waivers, any team may place a claim on that player by replying to the original post, stating that they are choosing to put in a claim. A claim may only be made if the team claiming the player is able to fit the player’s salary into their budget. If you claim a player, but don't have a roster spot for him, you are able to release an EL Player to make room for the incoming waiver player.
c) 72 hours after a player is placed on waivers, the team with the current worst record that put in a claim gets him. If that player was claimed while on BUYOUT waivers, the original team is no longer responsible for paying that player's salary, as it travels with him to the new team.
d) If the waived player is left unclaimed after 72 hours, he remains on the original team's roster. If that player was on BUYOUT waivers, his salary will stay on that team's payroll for the remaining term of the contract, and be listed in the BUYOUT section on the spreadsheet. As previously mentioned, that player's roster slot is opened as soon as he is placed on BUYOUT waivers.
e) Unlike the NHL, waivers are optional. It is just a means to try and shed a contract. A player DOES NOT have to go through waivers to move from MAJORS to MINORS, and vice versa.
