a) To start an auction on a player, scroll down to the Free Agent Bidding section of the forum, and open up a new thread in the appropriate board of that respective player's position (use your best discretion here, and at worst, that player must be eligible for that position on Fantrax). There, click Create Thread, with the subject being PLAYERNAME - X (X being that player's position, as defined by the board they are in). In the body of the thread, simply post the URL to that player's profile on the Fantrax site. From there, reply to the thread you just made with your official bid in the ($# / #y / $Total#) format.
Any subsequent bids for that same player are to be submitted in a reply to that same thread with a larger bid than the previous. Any threads that attempt to start an auction on a player already under contract, or involve a player already in an out-standing auction, will be deleted.
b) All bids must be a minimum of 1 year at $1 with a maximum of 5 years, no maximum value. If you are bidding on a player that is eligible for our EL Player Draft, it will cost a minimum of $5 per year ($5/1y/$5, $5/2y/$10, $6/3y/$18, $12/4y/$48, $24/5y/$120). And, for example, you could not outbid $5/1y/$5 with $4/2y/$8. While in normal circumstances this would be a valid bid, but because the annual salary is lower than $5, it is deemed invalid in light of the player being an EL Player.
c) There will be a minimum annual salary for multi-year contracts according to the years offered.
-2 year contracts must have a minimum salary of $3 ($3 / 2y / $6)
-3 year contracts must have a minimum salary of $6 ($6 / 3y / $18)
-4 year contracts must have a minimum salary of $12 ($12 / 4y / $48)
-5 year contracts must have a minimum salary of $24 ($24 / 5y / $120)
d) By default, the winning bid will be the total value of the contract offered. If two contracts have equal value, then the bid offering more money upfront/less years wins.
For example: If one team bids 3 years at $15 per year (displayed as $15 / 3y / $45) on a free agent and another team bids 4 years at $12 per year ($12 / 4y / $48) on the same free agent, the 4 year contract will be more valuable since it is worth $48 and the 3 year contract is worth $45.
Example 2: If one team bids 4 years at $12 per year ($12 / 4y / $48) on free agent and another team bids 3 years at $16 per year ($16 / 3y / $48) on the same free agent, the value for both contracts will be $48, but the 3 year contract will win since it is offering more money upfront.
e) If your bid stands as the highest bid for 24 hours, you then win that player. Each time a bid is beat, the clock resets.
f) There is to only be 4 auctions per position at a time, league wide. If you go to start an auction on the 5th player by position on the boards, that auction will be invalid, and all you'll be doing is tipping your hand to everyone else, letting them know who you are interested in.
g) All bids are final. You may not delete or change any bids you have made, so please think carefully before making them.
h) If you make a clerical error in your bid (Your bid isn't in-fact higher than the previous bid, you don't add up your totals properly, you put the wrong term, etc.), please DO NOT modify it yourself. Just start a second, new post with the corrected information, and notify an administrator. An administrator will take care of the mistake. Any bid that has been modified by anyone other than an administrator will be considered invalid.
i) If you bid in/start an auction, but wouldn't have the roster spots to accommodate that player if you were to win (including any other outstanding auctions as well), you must disclose a Conditional EL RELEASE along with your bid. This is done by naming an EL Player from your roster that will be EL RELEASED in the event of a win. If no EL Player is disclosed and, your bid will be considered invalid. (Example: "$X / Xy / $TotalX If I win this auction, I will EL Release PLAYER A").
If your team does not have enough funds for a bid before the Conditional EL Release, but would after the event of a conditional EL Release, then that bid is valid. However, if your disclosed EL Player's salary would not clear enough funds for your bid to be compliant, then your bid is invalid.
j) Any bids that would bring your Roster Payroll above your Total Funds for the current season are automatically vetoed. Your team may be over budget for a future season, but this must be rectified before that season becomes active. If you are still over budget by the time that season starts, your team will be locked and you will forfeit every matchup until your finances are compliant. The commissioner may also EL Release players to get your team compliant if it is deemed necessary.
k) Teams must have 2 goaltenders on their MAJOR roster at all times during the regular season - no more, no less. And remember that there is a maximum of 3 TERM goaltenders allowed at any one time per franchise, between MAJOR and MINOR rosters. Attempting to sign a 4th TERM goalie will be deemed as an illegal auction/bid, and be deleted.
l) The Free Agent bidding window runs from the opening of Free Agency in the offseason, through to the DHL Trade Deadline, whichever dates those events fall on in a given season.
m) When you sign someone, they are automatically assigned to your MINOR roster (this costs no transactions). However, it will cost 1 transaction to promote them to your MAJOR roster (whenever you'd like to do this, whether it be immediately after an auction closes, or weeks/months later). Transactions are not tallied during the off-season, and are unlimited.
