Well folks, we're now just 3 days away from the start of the 2014 DHL Entry Level Player Draft (Monday, August 25th at 3pmEST/NoonPST!). I hope you all had a great summer, because it's just about hockey time again, so say goodbye to sweet, sweet freedom!
So for anyone new, or anyone that needs a reminder, here's a quick run down of how the EL Player Draft works:
- Starting at 3pmEST/NoonPST, the selection clock starts for the manager whose selection it is (Starting with the #1 selection).
- That manager then has a maximum of 24 hours to submit their selection, by way of a post/reply in the appropriate thread (Each thread is a different round) on the 2014 EL Player Draft section of the boards. Say however much/whatever you'd like to say, but somewhere in the post please list the player's first and last name, position, and current NHL team (i.e. Jonathan Drouin, LW, Tampa Bay Lightning).
- When that selection is made, the next manager in the order has a maximum of 24hrs to make their selection, and that cycle will repeat until we've gone through all 5 Rounds.
- If a manger is on the clock for 24hrs and has not yet made a selection, the next person in the order is put on the clock to make a selection. The late manager's "skipped" selection is valid to be made at any time, but he's lost his priority. If a late selection is submitted, no matter how much time was left on the clock for manager who has been skipped to, the clock will reset to a full 24hrs again.
- Before submitting a bid, please check the DHL Spreadsheet's Player List tab to ensure that player is not already owned by another manager (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Amk72ztloHZIdEdaTXBtTC1IOF9RM2FqNFFnOGYzWVE#gid=14). Also check the previous Rounds of this year's draft to confirm the player has not already been selected.
- As the draft goes on, and selections are made, the commissioner will update the original post of that Round to list the selections already made.
- If you've selected all the players you want, or have no remaining slots on your rosters, but still have draft picks remaining, you have the option to DEFER your selection(s). By doing this, you are essentially surrendering that selection to instead be made at another point in the season. If you want to DEFER a pick, just say so at any point in the draft, and it will be noted as such in the thread. Any deferred picks that you have will be valid to be used from after the draft's conclusion, until November 30th at 11:59pmEST/8:59pmPST. These deferred picks are still eligible to be traded, as well.
- While each selection has a maximum of 24hrs, you are encouraged to make your selections as soon as you are able. The sooner we get the draft done, the sooner we can start Free Agency, and make sure we'll be ready to go for NHL Opening Night. If you are unable to make your selection through traditional means, feel free to contact the commissioner (on the boards, through email, through facebook, however), and he can make your selection for you.
As you all know, we have 2 managers that are taking teams over for the 2014 season. As is standard for any managers taking over control of an existing team, they will each be allowed a ONE-TIME-ONLY Amnesty Buyout. With this, any one TERM player can be completely stricken from that team's roster, contract and all. This is only optional, and you are not required to use it if you like your roster as it is. (NOTE: This is to be used on a TERM contract player, which normally stay on the books after being bought out. If there's an EL Player on your roster that you don't like, you can simply release them at any time and immediately get that money back). To use your amnesty buyout, just make a post in the "Waivers/Buyouts/EL Releases" section of the forum that says the player's name, and that you are using your amnesty buyout on them. You will have until August 31st at 11:59pmEST/8:59pmPST to use your amnesty buyout. If it is not used by then, it simply expires. Any players bought out in this form will become free agents, eligible to be bid on during Free Agency.
With that business out of the way, I also want to let you know that all those recent trades that were made while I was out of the country are now finished and processed! Head on over to the spreadsheet and/or the FanTrax site to see your rosters up-to-date.
Thanks everyone, see you on Monday!

Here on the forum, I've changed everyone's rank from "New Member" to "General Manager". On top of that, I've added everyone's first name under the title. That way, we can also go by that if we'd like, and people can stop calling Doug (Finnish) by "Ken", or GOD FORBID "Teemu" now.

With only 1 pick remaining in the 2014 Dynasty Hockey League Entry-Level Player Draft (brought to you by Subway Restaurants), we will soon begin the wonderful off-season process that us veteran managers hunger for all summer long... the 2014 Dynasty Hockey League Free Agency Bidding (brought to you by Visa)! When? Well, I think we all deserve a nice day of rest before the frenzy begins, so Free Agent auctions will be allowed to start on FRIDAY, SEPT 5th at 3pmEST/NoonPST (8pm for Melbourne!). Most of you know the drill, but for those that are new, or need to freshen up, it's recommended that you read the Official Rules thread for Free Agent Bidding here: Free Agency Bidding RulesIt'll seem like a lot at first glance, but once you see bids started, it'll make sense very quickly.
Here are some IMPORTANT things, FOR EVERYBODY, to keep in mind going into Free Agency: -There are only 4 AUCTIONS PER POSITION allowed at any one time. If there are 4 LW auctions going, and you want to start an auction on a 5th LW, wait until one of the previous 4 has finished before starting the new one. -If you are bidding on a player on an NHL Entry Level Contract (i.e. he would be eligible to be EL Drafted) the yearly salary must be $5 or more NO MATTER the term being offered. -Contracts are allowed to be 1 year in length, to a maximum of 5 years in length. However, every contract that's 2 years or more needs to start at a minimum annual salary according to this list: -2 year contracts must have a minimum salary of $3 ($3 / 2y / $6) -3 year contracts must have a minimum salary of $6 ($6 / 3y / $18) -4 year contracts must have a minimum salary of $12 ($12 / 4y / $48) -5 year contracts must have a minimum salary of $24 ($24 / 5y / $120)
If anyone has questions about how things work, feel free to send me a message, or you can try to ask the rest of the league for clarification if it's urgent. See you Friday!

Gentlemen, The final phase of the preseason is upon us... Final rosters. All final rosters are due by tomorrow (Tues, Oct 7th) at 11:59pmEST/8:59pmPST. The NHL deadline is 5pm Tuesday, so that gives everybody time to adjust to any final tweaks that may surprise anyone. Every team must ice a full MAJOR roster. If there are any empty spots remaining on your MAJOR roster by the deadline, I myself will be promoting players from your MINOR roster to fill the spots (and activating any EL salaries in the process). So, if everyone could message me their final rosters, that'd be great (This is how you want your MAJOR roster to look for day 1 of the season). You can send them to my inbox on the boards in a private message, or you can send them to me in a facebook message, or email them to me, or post them in a new thread on your team message board if you'd like. If you like how everything looks as is on the spreadsheet/FanTrax, you can just let me know, and I'll move forward with that, and take care of everything for you. When I've heard from everyone, I'll be making a thread in each manager's board, listing each team's starting line-up. I'd like them in the same format as can be found here: dynastyhockey99.proboards.com/thread/2459/moscow-army-opening-night-roster...but also feel free to add any addition information in the post, like actual line combinations, if you're so inclined. After the deadline passes, IR Replacements will become eligible, and we will go back to using the Transaction per Match rules for the rest of the season. Those rules can be found here, if you're new or need a refresher: dynastyhockey99.proboards.com/thread/2408/maximum-transactions-match
