Hey everyone,
The 2022 Dynasty Hockey League EL Player Draft will begin on Tuesday, August 23rd at 4pmET/1pmPT! That's only about 28 hours from now, less notice than I had hoped. Sorry for that, but I'll explain in a minute...
Our entire 1st Round draft order, as it stands now, is as follows:
*1. Haukiputaan Ahmat -
*2. Tampa Bay Thunder -
*3. Melbourne Bushrangers -
*4. Castleford Coyotes -
*5. Vegas Aces Wild -
6. Portland Buckaroos -
7. Oslo Mastodon -
8. Vegas Aces Wild (from Bratislava Bears) -
9. Vegas Aces Wild (from Morweena Reimnoceri) -
10. Vegas Aces Wild (from St. Roch Hawks) -
11. Simi Valley Kings -
12. Haukiputaan Ahmat (from Moscow Red Army) -
+13. Bratislava Bears -
* = After Lottery Draw
+ = Compensatory Draft Pick
Firstly: We have Sami, Michael and then Daniel to start the draft this year, and there's some whiplash with the timezones there. I'm hoping that aiming for the time that I've set, the timezones will somewhat work out and we can keep some flow going. Maybe not, and everyone is due their 24hrs if they need it, but from what I figure, this might work out okay. I'm also tied up in the morning and early afternoon of the day after, so don't want to postpone things another day afterwards.
Secondly: Remember that, as voted on by league members, managers are no longer allowed to DEFER draft picks starting this season. I know it can be hard to always have a selection in mind, especially late in the draft. Accordingly, managers will be allowed to "PASS" on their selection once per draft pick, which will bump their on-the-clock selection to the bottom of this year's draft board. This will buy them more time, but will also cost them their original priority. If a team decides to PASS, the next team in the draft order is up for selection for 24hrs past the time of the PASS. Alternatively, managers will also be allowed to simply "EXPIRE" their selection if they have no intent of making a selection with their pick.
Finally: You may have noticed that I've added added two Compensatory Draft Picks to Jakub/Bratislava's spreadsheet page. He only had a single draft pick over the next 2 years to work with (Tampa Bay 5,'22). I really didn't want his introduction to the DHL to be him sitting around watching all of us have fun. Not to mention that it's hard to build a team in one's image with the cupboards so bare. With this in mind, I've converted the pick he did have into *Bratislava 1,'22 [13th overall, not to be confused with 8th overall Vegas Aces Wild (from Bratislava Bears)]. Also, I've created an extra pick in this year's draft, *Bratislava 3,'22 [38th overall, not to be confused with 33rd overall Tampa Bay Thunder (from Bratislava Bears)]. So those picks that were originally Nebraska's, that are now the property of other teams, still exist and belong to their respective teams. Those owners do not have to worry. It shifts a lot of the existing picks down a selection or two in the grand scheme of things, but I don't think it's too heavy a price to pay for the sake of the league's health.
I've also given Jakub the condition that these picks are NOT trade-eligible. He must make the selection on them himself, in the spirit that they were given (not flipped for other returns, etc). I hope you guys don't mind that I did this.
Speaking of Jakub and the Bratislava Bears, for his and anyone else's sake, I'll include the breakdown/refresher of how the EL Player Draft process works:
- At 4pmET/1pmPT, the clock starts for the manager whose selection it is (Haukiputaan as of now).
- That manager then has a maximum of 24 hours to submit their selection, by way of a post/reply in the thread designated for that corresponding round (Round 1-Round 5 each have their own thread) on the 2022 EL Player Draft section of the boards. Say however much/whatever you'd like to say, but somewhere in the post please list the player's first and last name, FanTrax position, and current NHL team (i.e. Juraj Slafkovsky, LW, Montreal Canadiens). This year's draft takes place here - dynastyhockey99.proboards.com/board/54/2022-el-player-draft
- When that selection is made, the next manager in the order has a maximum of 24hrs, from the moment the previous choice was made, to make their own selection. This cycle will repeat until we've gone through all 5 rounds.
- If a manger is on the clock for 24hrs and has not yet made a selection, the next person in the order is put on the clock to make a selection. The late manager's "skipped" selection is valid to be made at any time, but they've lost their priority. If a late selection is submitted, no matter how much time was left on the clock for a manager who has been skipped to, the clock will reset to a full 24hrs again.
- Before submitting a bid, please check the DHL Spreadsheet's Player List tab to ensure that player is not already owned by another manager.
- As the draft goes on, and selections are made, the commissioner will update the original post of that round to list the selections already made.
- If you are unable to make a decision on a selection, or have no room left on your roster for a selection, you have the option to "PASS" on your selection(s) once per draft pick. By doing this, you are essentially moving that pick to the bottom of the draft board. This will buy you more time, but will also cost you the pick's original priority. If you want to PASS on a pick, just say so at any point in the draft, and it will be noted as such on the draft board. Alternatively, managers will also be allowed to simply "EXPIRE" their selection if they have no intent of making a selection with their pick.
- While each selection has a maximum of 24hrs, you are encouraged to make your selections as soon as you are able. The sooner we get the draft done, the sooner we can start Free Agency, and make sure we'll be ready to go for NHL Opening Night. If you are unable to make your selection through traditional means, feel free to contact the commissioner (on the boards, through email, through Facebook, however you please), and he can make your selection for you.
That should just about do it. Happy drafting, everybody!
