Castleford (0-2-1) v. Oslo (2-1-0) - Oslo wins 9 - 3
Haukiputaan (0-3-0) v. Tampa Bay (1-2-0) - Haukiputaan wins 8.5 - 3.5
Matchup of the Week: Haukiputaan v. Tampa Bay
Despite there being a tie this week, the honours will be going to Haukiputaan and Tampa Bay for the fact that this was the week the Ahmat finally got the goose egg out of the win column. While the final score makes it look like it was an easy one, it was a bit closer than it seemed. Hauk won goals and blocks by just two, goalie wins by 1 and tied in STP. The swing there of course giving the W to the Thunder and keeping our Finnish friend sad and winless. But, ifs and buts don’t count for shit in this league (not yet, anyways) so congrats to Hauk on their first win and great matchup by both managers.
Performance of the Week (skaters): St. Roch Hawks (13 goals, 32 assists, +10, 150 shots, 14 STP, 63 hits, 59 blocks, 19:25 TOI)
This was not an easy one to nail down this week, but when it’s like this I take a quick eye-ball look at which teams end up in the top 3 for each stat during the week and the Hawks were at the top of 3 and 2nd in another, so...congrats. Also, what are the odds that the two teams taking home performance on the week faced each other but their matchup was NOT the best of the week. That’s some kind of shoddy journalism right there.
Performance of the Week (goalies): Morweena Reimnoceri (4 wins, 1.63 GAA, 174 saves, .946 SV%)
Ahh, quality AND quantity. The two teams with probably 40% of the DHL’s active goalies faced off this past week. It went much better for this one. Now, obviously goalies are voodoo and this could have very easily gone poorly, but this time it didn’t and I will bask in the glory that is that stat-line. Ahhhhhhh...so nice. What a time to be a goaltender in Morweena.
Player of the Week: Jonathan Marchessault (4 goals, 2 assists, +2, 15 shots, 2 STP, 4 hits, 2 blocks, 17:04 TOI)
Not only did J-March drop 6 points in 4 games, but of the 4 goals he scored this week, one of them was his 100th as a Golden Knight making him the first player on that team to score 100 goals. So there ya go, a fun piece of trivia for you to go and impress your friends and family with. Don’t say I never teach you anything.
3 Stars:
1) Jonathan Quick (2 GP, 2 wins, 0.50 GAA, 67 saves, .985 SV%)
2) J.T. Miller (4 goals, 1 assist, +1, 14 shots, 2 STP, 12 hits, 3 blocks, 20:31 TOI)
3) Alex Pietrangelo (1 goal, 4 assists, +1, 10 shots, 2 STP, 5 hits, 9 blocks, 25:49 TOI)
Other Notes:
Free Agents Make DHL Managers Look Stupid - As another week goes by, the free agent signings continue to roll. This week saw Boone Jenner, Rasmus Asplund, Ryan Johansen, Mattias Ekholm, and Oliver Kylington all get scooped up around the DHL as the players who were homeless to start the season really do their best to make us managers look like fools for not signing them to begin with.
Morweena’s Mailbag:
Q: How are you?
A: I’m guessing that the answer received last week was not quite as in depth as the asker would have liked, so I’m going on a deep dive this week!
I am good - I have found myself, since September, with a lot less time than I had originally thought I would have once both my kids were in school, but that’s okay. I am generally very content, but have been trying to move on from my current role at work into something with more stable hours (for those new managers, I work at Rogers Sportsnet - which is a sports television station in Canada. I work at night - it’s exhausting as some of you can attest to). Instead of being met with new hours I have been partially moved into a role which has me in the broadcast truck for some of our national broadcasts, which is super fucking cool, but no real change in terms of hours. But so be it. It’s a great job and I’m lucky to have it. However, as I alluded to earlier, it has kept me on my toes and therefore I haven’t had nearly the amount of time to do things as I thought I would. Aside from professionally, my family is good and I have started playing men’s league hockey again, my daughter is back dancing and playing hockey, and my son has started playing hockey this year himself. Keep an eye out for him in the 2036 EL draft.Overall, I’m very busy but extremely content. How are you?
...and starting 4-0-0 is nice too.
