Early in the morning hours of Sunday morning, Simi Valley Kings' Player Coach, Assistant General Manager, Lion Tamer, Sommelier, 3 Time Jacks Champion, Beatbox Master and Toddler Fashion Designer, Roman Cervenka, was struck by a wayward toboggan during his morning elliptical bicycle ride in the mountains near Alpbach, Austria. Cervenka was in the quaint European town visiting his chalet in preparations for the inaugural Cervenka Summit later this year. Onlookers who witnessed the accident reported that the rider of the toboggan fled the scene and could only be described as a young, gruffy looking male and wearing an off white and black hockey jersey with an "A" on the front. Alpbach's town constable said that "a full investigation is ongoing". The ramifications of Cervenka's accident sent shockwaves through the DHL community and, of course, within the Kings' organization. Doctors told reporters that his playing career is most certainly over and that likely means a release from the team's roster. Cervenka, shown in the picture below, gave an emphatic "thumbs sideways" when asked how he was feeling and his confidence about making a full recovery. Team owner, Paul Catalano, released a statement stating that "Cervenka will forever be apart of this organization whether on the playing roster or not. He is clearly a future DHL Hall of Famer and that no one has given more to the league than he." The Kings owner is requesting that in lieu of flowers and, an immeasurable amount of fan mail he would receive, that 2022 cap space money be sent instead.
