Have some big news for you folks...
The NHL's regular season is very much a work in progress right now with the evolving nature of what's going on with Vancouver/North division, and it could have major impacts on our playoffs, considering the timing. The fact of the matter is we don't actually have an end-date for the NHL regular season, which muddies the waters of our OWN playoff schedule. There's just not going to be a perfect solution, but here is what I've come up with...
1) Our playoffs were scheduled to end on May 8th (as was the NHL's, originally). With the NHL adding more dates for regular season games beyond that point, I've been able to twist FanTrax into adding any games played on the 9th, 10th and 11th to our playoff schedule. At the time of doing this, that's as far as I'm able to go, however. The NHL may in-fact have some NHL games rescheduled past this point, but I can only work with what we have at the moment, unfortunately. Additionally, I'm not certain I could add further dates even if I wanted to, at least if information comes down tomorrow after our playoff games start getting played. Furthermore, I'm not even sure it would be a good idea anyways, considering how these further NHL games may be implemented and the very specific teams involved.
As things are right now at least, potential games on the 9th, 10th and 11th of May will all be added to the 3rd and final round of our playoffs, pushing it past a 2-week window.
2) I've managed to twist FanTrax further and tweak our earlier playoff rounds as well. Traditionally, Round 1 and Round 2 of our playoffs are a single-week match-up, with Round 3 (our Wuest Memorial Trophy Final) being a combined double-week match-up. However, with the odd schedule we had to work with this season, I originally laid out a game-plan of having Round 1 be a single-week match-up, and then have BOTH Round 2 and Round 3 be double-week match-ups. I was going to roll with this as planned, but this Canucks stuff hit at a really inopportune time, and could challenge the integrity of our opening round playoff matches. In my opinion at least.
With that in mind, I've modified our playoff schedule as such:
Round 1: Monday Apr 5 - Wednesday Apr 14 (10 days of competition)
Round 2: Thursday Apr 15 - Sunday Apr 25 (11 days of competition)
Round 3: Monday Apr 26 - Tuesday May 11 (16 days of competition)
So to summarize, Round 1 and 2 will both be beyond a single-week match-up, but Round 2's double-week length has been cut down some, and those game-days added to the end of Round 1.
I realize it's probably going to be REALLY WEIRD having a match-up end/start a new match-up mid-week, but I think it's our best bet in the sake of fairness and competition. I realize Round 2 is being stripped down here from what was originally announced, but I don't want to run the risk of Round 1 being problematic with delays when we have extra game-days to work with here. Round 2 will still be longer than it would in a traditional year anyways, so I personally don't feel much is being "corrupted" here.
There will be more details to come, such as transaction counts, etc. But if I had to guess it will be 4 per week in Round 1 and Round 2, and perhaps 6 in Round 3. Minimum goalie starts are likely to rise to at least 3 in Round 1 and 2, and perhaps 4 in Round 3.
I need to think on this more, but wanted to get the word out now so there would be time to digest here.
It's a dynamic situation we're in here (which isn't new for us anymore it seems!), so I appreciate any leeway and patience that may be needed in these matters!
Thanks everyone,
