Some details have come out for the NHL's coming schedule. Their intent is to run the regular season from Jan 13th through May 8th, should everything go as intended (Canadian Division approval still pending, which could effect things). With that being said, here's my proposed regular season schedule for the DHL this coming season.
Matchup 1: Wed Jan 13 - Sun Jan 24
Matchup 2: Mon Jan 25 - Sun Jan 31
Matchup 3: Mon Feb 1 - Sun Feb 7
Matchup 4: Mon Feb 8 - Sun Feb 14
Matchup 5: Mon Feb 15 - Sun Feb 21
Matchup 6: Mon Feb 22 - Sun Feb 28
Matchup 7: Mon Mar 1 - Sun Mar 7
Matchup 8: Mon Mar 8 - Sun Mar 14
Matchup 9: Mon Mar 15 - Sun Mar 21
Matchup 10: Mon Mar 22 - Sun Mar 28
Matchup 11: Mon Mar 29 - Sun Apr 4
Matchup 12: Mon Apr 5 - Sun Apr 11
***PLAYOFFS***
Matchup 13 (Round 1): Mon Apr 12 - Sun Apr 18
Matchup 14 (Round 2): Mon Apr 19 - Sun Apr 25
Matchup 15 (Round 3): Mon Apr 26 - Sun May 2 + Mon May 3 - Sat May 8
This would allow every team the chance to play each other once (11 weeks), give us the usual single-week Rounds 1 and 2 of the playoffs, and the double-week championship matchup (Round 3).
This does leave us with one extra week in the schedule, which could become a one-off matchup against a single repeated opponent, or give us room to adjust any of the matchups into a double week, should there be unexpected time-off at some point in the season that would otherwise make one of the other weeks have an unsatisfying number of games played in it.
Otherwise, we could do something similar to the NHL and do the whole season strictly within divisions, giving each team the ability to play all division opponents twice (10 weeks) and instead have 2 "extra weeks" that we could keep in our back pocket to decide what to do with.
Thoughts?

Seems highly unfair to make teams lose to me more than once...

This sounds good - having the extra week in our back pocket seems like a good idea.

I'd rather have us play each team once and then go to the playoffs. Playing every team one time is fair to everyone and ending our season a week before the NHL ends their season gives us wiggle room should we need it.
Matchup 1: Wed Jan 13 - Sun Jan 24
Matchup 2: Mon Jan 25 - Sun Jan 31
Matchup 3: Mon Feb 1 - Sun Feb 7
Matchup 4: Mon Feb 8 - Sun Feb 14
Matchup 5: Mon Feb 15 - Sun Feb 21
Matchup 6: Mon Feb 22 - Sun Feb 28
Matchup 7: Mon Mar 1 - Sun Mar 7
Matchup 8: Mon Mar 8 - Sun Mar 14
Matchup 9: Mon Mar 15 - Sun Mar 21
Matchup 10: Mon Mar 22 - Sun Mar 28
Matchup 11: Mon Mar 29 - Sun Apr 4
***PLAYOFFS***
Matchup 13 (Round 1): Mon Apr 5 - Sun Apr 11
Matchup 14 (Round 2): Mon Apr 12 - Sun Apr 18
Matchup 15 (Round 3): Mon Apr 19 - Sun May 2

Dropping the last week of the NHL schedule isn't something I'm too fond of, however. Perhaps our best course of action is do 11 regular season matchups, then make BOTH the 2nd and 3rd round of our playoffs 2-weeks. Adding extra time to playoff rounds is never a bad thing and only helps to crown the best team.

I've gone ahead and input the following schedule into FanTrax for the coming season...
Matchup 1 (combined weeks): Wed Jan 13 - Sun Jan 24
Matchup 2: Mon Jan 25 - Sun Jan 31
Matchup 3: Mon Feb 1 - Sun Feb 7
Matchup 4: Mon Feb 8 - Sun Feb 14
Matchup 5: Mon Feb 15 - Sun Feb 21
Matchup 6: Mon Feb 22 - Sun Feb 28
Matchup 7: Mon Mar 1 - Sun Mar 7
Matchup 8: Mon Mar 8 - Sun Mar 14
Matchup 9: Mon Mar 15 - Sun Mar 21
Matchup 10: Mon Mar 22 - Sun Mar 28
Matchup 11: Mon Mar 29 - Sun Apr 4
***PLAYOFFS***
Matchup 13 (Round 1, single week): Mon Apr 5 - Sun Apr 11
Matchup 14 (Round 2, combined weeks): Mon Apr 12 - Sun Apr 25
Matchup 15 (Round 3, combined weeks): Mon Apr 26 - Sun May 8
This allows us to have a non-truncated debut match-up, have every team play each other once in our regular season, and while Round 1 of our playoffs will remain a single week match-up, Rounds 2 and 3 will BOTH be combined weeks match-ups.
We're leaving ourselves a bit vulnerable this way, should there be issues that result in delays or whatnot, but I think we'll just have to cross that bridge when we get there. If it's possible, I could perhaps reduce Round 2 back to a single week match-up, but I'm not certain I'll be able to adjust our schedule mid-stream like that after we've already started generating points.

I'll get more specific closer to the date, but it'll likely be the night of the 12th or perhaps the afternoon of the 13th. I believe 5:30pmET is the earliest game that day?

Do we have six transactions for the first matchup or just three?

Do we have six transactions for the first matchup or just three? Excellent question. We'll make it 5 total transactions allowed for the first match-up of the season (Jan 13-24). Opening rosters are allowed anytime between now and Wed Jan 13th at 4:30pmEST/1:30pmPST. Essentially, all non-IR transactions are unlimited up until this deadline hits. Past this point, any further Promotion/Demotion will count against your transaction total.
