Simi Valley - The Simi Valley Kings are a new team to the Dynasty Hockey League, but they are no expansion team and they opened training camp last night unlike any other team in league history.
Last year the team was in a place called Camarillo (which is Spanish for "seriously, do you smell that? What IS that?!?") but after months of legal battles the city finally won their case against team owner Paul Catalano and forced him to leave the city once and for all. Catalano has appealed the ruling, claiming the midget was not wearing pants when he arrived at the masquerade ball and he mistook the mayor's horse for a minotaur statue. The appeal is scheduled for October 6th and Camarillo's lawyer, The Shaggy DA (pictured below) is optimistic the team will be cleared to return in the future should they choose to do so.
For this year, though, the team will be playing in Simi Valley and they kicked off training camp last night with a festival for their fans that included live music, free food and drinks, caricaturists, fortune tellers, nail salons, tattoo parlors, DIY enema kits and, as part of their settlement with the American Little People Society, free step ladders.
Part of the live entertainment was a group of Asian women singing the Simi Valley theme song while wearing jerseys of Simi Valley Kings star Chris Kreider. The theme song, which will be played in its entirety every time the Kings score a goal on home ice this season, was written by team owner Paul Catalano who reportedly was inspired after taking what Mandalore Mythosaurs owner Kris Koller called "a heroic dose of horse tranquilizers" and wrote the song in less than 30 seconds. You can see the performance and hear the song by clicking on the link below.
The season begins two weeks from today and it's clear that the Simi Valley Kings are ready to defend their title!
