Stockholm - The 2015 Dynasty Hockey League free agency period finally begins at 5pm ET/2pm PT today and there are a lot of star players expected to receive big offers. Below is a look at some of the top names at each position along with potential landing spots based on what LovingTheCaptor.com has heard:
CENTER:
David Backes
Hits? Check. Goals? Check. Assists? Check. PIM? Check. SOG? Check. PPP? Check. No center in the DHL is as well-balanced, as productive or as valuable as David Backes is and, as a result, he should be very highly sought after when the bell rings to allow free agent bids.
Potential Landing Spot: Mandalore, Dynamo, Moscow, Catalina & Morweena
Tomas Plekanec
He hits less than a quadriplegic monk but he also scores more than a dildo in a women's prison. Whichever team gets him knows they will get 25+ goals and 60+ points with PPP and SOG as well. He could end up being the best bargain signing in the league this summer and no doubt the teams that covet him are hoping he flies under the radar. No chance.
Potential Landing Spot: Nebraska, Stockholm, Oslo & Vegas
John Tavares
See Tomas Plekanec, but add another 10+ goals and 20+ points, almost all of which come on the PP. Tavares is the gem in the free agency tiara this summer and will be paid accordingly. He could become the first $50 player in DHL history, and he could be worth every cent of it.
Potential Landing Spot: Quebec, Vegas, Stockhom, Melbourne & Simi Valley
LEFT WING:
Joe Pavelski
Somewhere between Tavares and Plekanec is Joe Pavelski. He's the same type of player and has position versatility to add to his value. Bidding for him could be lucrative or he could sneak under the radar, sources are telling LovingTheCaptor.com both things at this point so we'll see which way it goes when teams are allowed to bid. He's been underpaid in the past and will no doubt be looking to make as much as possible on this contract.
Potential Landing Spot: Simi Valley, Dynamo, Vegas, Catalina & Stockholm
Jamie Benn
Led the entire league in scoring last year and was reportedly not even healthy! What can he do when he's 100%? Someone's about to find out but will have to pay the piper to have him join their roster. The whole league is interested in adding this stud to their roster but only a few can afford to actually sign him. The bidding between those that can should be intense and fun to watch.
Potential Landing Spot: Moscow, Oslo & Nebraska
Milan Lucic
He's been traded to a team that the Simi Valley Kings love more than sex (which isn't saying much after his recent court-ordered castration) and thus they will do whatever they have to do to add this hunchback to their roster.
Potential Landing Spot: Simi Valley
RIGHT WING:
Phil Kessel
This cherubic scoring winger is now a linemate of Sidney Crosby and/or Evgeni Malkin which should allow him to stuff the net with pucks as often as he stuffs his face with pierogies. If he could score 25 goals and 61 points on a glorified ECHL team what will he do with actual talent around him and no media hounding him? Sources tell LovingTheCaptor.com that he's about to go off like a firework in Jason Pierre-Paul's hand and whomever gets him this summer will be loving more than just the captor for years to come.
Potential Landing Spot: Mandalore, Melbourne, Moscow & Quebec
Ryan Callahan
Most underrated player in the DHL? Maybe so, but not for long. This 54 point scoring winger who isn't afraid to hit should find himself well-compensated this season and for years to come and whichever team gets him will have a guy that can ring a lot of bells on a regular basis for them. He's a tough player to find at this position and those that are interested won't be shy about getting the bidding started.
Potential Landing Spot: Morweena, Vegas, Stockholm & Oslo
Jeff Carter
Teams are going to have a tough time outbidding Simi Valley for this guy but if they can they'll get a guy who consistently scores 60+ points and shoots more than John McClane at a Christmas party. His multi-position eligibility adds to his appeal in the DHL and sources have told LovingTheCaptor.com that they expect Carter to earn a surprisingly high salary this summer.
Potential Landing Spot: Simi Valley, Catalina, Morweena & Mandalore
DEFENSEMAN:
PK Subban
If the DHL were still playing under last years scoring system this would be the most sought-after free agent but the addition of SOG takes him down, slightly. Still, he's a guy that scores 60+ points a year, contributes heavily on the PP and gives you hits and blocked shots. His versatility, age and production should make him one of the players that goes early.
Potential Landing Spot: Dynamo, Vegas, Oslo & Moscow
Kris Letang
The best defenseman available in free agency, based on the new scoring system, brings a bit of everything to the table which DHL owners love. If you want 50+ points, hits, blocked shots, PPP and SOG this is the guy to get. Only concern is his ability to stay healthy but that shouldn't stop him from getting a big payday.
Potential Landing Spot: Nebraska, Melbourne, Mandalore & Stockholm
Erik Karlsson
Was severely underpaid in the past and will be looking to cash in for some generational "F-you" money this summer. 20+ goals and 60+ points from a blueliner? Almost 300 SOG a year from a defenseman? It ok that he doesn't hit or block shots - dude is essentially a forward on defense, and a damn good one at that. He's about to get PAID!
Potential Landing Spot: Quebec, Catalina, Melbourne & Morweena
GOALIE:
Jonathan Quick
Helped take the then Camarillo Kings to the mountain top last season and timed his free agent season perfectly. He's consistently great, a clear cut #1 goalie who plays his best in the big games. Last year Tuukka Rask got $175 contract out of Morweena and it's hard to believe Quick will get anything less than that. Look for the bidding to be Landeskog-esque.
Potential Landing Spot: Dynamo, Nebraska, Catalina & Simi Valley
Henrik Lundqvist
You know what you're getting with King Henrik and what you're getting is a stud, clear-cut #1 goalie who puts up solid win totals, GAA, SV% and SO numbers every single season. His age is a bit of a concern but sources tell LovingTheCaptor.com that he's going to get a 5-year offer so that puts him in the $120 range, at least.
Potential Landing Spot: Quebec, Oslo, Vegas, Mandalore & Moscow
Devan Dubnyk
Best goalie available based on the DHL scoring system, but dude was in the AHL a year ago and has never been a good starter for more than four months. Is anyone willing to gamble on him long-term? Sources tell LovingTheCaptor.com the answer is yes! Many owners are convinced he's the real deal and are ready to pay the soon-to-be 30-year old goalie a lot of money to come mind the net for their franchise.
