All the way from the Reykjavik airport, the 2015 Dynasty Hockey League Playoffs are officially underway! With a victory over Melbourne, the Catalina Wine Mixer clinched the 1st seed and the North Stars Division Championship, and along with the Nebraska Buffalo, will both have a BYE for the first round. Meanwhile, Morweena (3) will take on Vegas (6), and Moscow (4) will host Quebec (5) after a last-second regular season victory by Moscow to leapfrog in the standings. Good luck to all teams that made the dance, and better luck next year to those not fortunate enough to make the cut. I'll be keeping the bracket updated throughout the playoffs, round-by-round.

I wish no one good luck. May all your good players become Malkinesque in their ability to get injured at the worst possible time!
A pox! A pox on all of your teams!

Updated for Round 2!
After leapfrogging Quebec in the standings on the final day of the regular season, Moscow Red Army continued to take control during the week on way to a 7-4-1 victory over the Bulldogs. Riding on the wave of 3 brilliant performances in net by Braden Holtby, Frederik Andersen, and newcomer Roberto Luongo (none of which allowed more than a single goal), Moscow was able to focus on their offense, and take the Goals, Assists, PPP and Shots categories to ensure the win. Moscow's offense was carried by Sidney Crosby, who had 2g/5a/+5/15SOG in the match-up. Both teams built heavy for the playoffs however, and Quebec's punishing physicality caught up to Moscow, who are now without 3 of their 6 deadline acquisitions (Leo Komarov, Mark Borowiecki and especially Tyler Seguin), in addition to their leading blueliner Oliver Ekman-Larsson, going into the 2nd Round of the playoffs.
As with last year's playoffs, the #6 seed upset the #3 seed when the Vegas Aces Wild beat the Morweena Reimnoceri 6-3-3 to take the first round victory. While Vegas' skaters came prepared to play, they were let down by 2 atrocious starts by young goaltender Jake Allen. Despite this, spot-starts by John Gibson and deadline acquisition M.A. Fleury were able to bail water and right the ship. This was a close match-up that was seperated by only 1 goal and 1 assist. Tomas Hertl put up 2g/4a/12SOG/2PPP as Vegas' best forward, while Hampus Lindholm put up 1g/3a/+4/2PPP on Vegas' back end. It remains to be seen if Vegas' young stars will be able to carry this team against the fucking Catalina Wine Mixer, the league's top seed. All eyes will be on Alex Ovechkin, who was traded from Vegas to Catalina a month before the deadline.
Congrats to the Moscow Red Army and the Vegas Aces Wild on their Round 1 victories. However, the fucking Catalina Wine Mixer and Nebraska Buffalo are waiting in the wings after their BYE weeks, sizing up their competition. Best of luck to all teams involved!
BREAKING NEWS: Reports out of Nebraska state that a crate addressed to the Red Army was waiting for them when the arrived at the airport this morning. The contents of the crate were claimed to be a bunch of oranges and a phonebook. The intent of this gesture is up for debate, and has left Moscow management searching for answers. An olive branch, or a veiled threat? You decide.

Updated for Round 3!
There's just something special about being the 6th seed in this league, it seems. For the 2nd straight year, the 6th seed has upset the higher seeds to make it to the championship match-up, as the #6 Vegas Aces Wild beat the 1st place Catalina Wine Mixer by a score of 7-3-2. Goaltending did neither team any favours this match, with the teams splitting the 4 goalie categories down the middle 1-1-2, and neither team posting a SV% over .900%. That being the case, it was left to the skaters to decide which team would move on, and Vegas took 6 of the 8 skater categories on the way to their victory. After a very strong regular season, Catalina's strong blueline seem to have stalled out when they were needed the most, collectively putting up only 2a, -7, 2 PIM and 1 PPP between the 7 of them. Vegas' deadline acquisition Drew Doughty tied or bettered those stats by himself. Beyond Doughty, Vegas' Boone Jenner (3g, 6 PIM, 13 SOG, 7 Hits) and the scorching hot Phil Kessel (2g, 5a, +5, 13 SOG, 2 PPP) had strong weeks for the Aces Wild.
In the other match-up, #4 Moscow Red Army beat the Whalers Conference Champion #2 Nebraska Buffalo by a score of 9-3-0. Unfortunately for Nebraska, the loss of their 2 best players in Evgeni Malkin and Carey Price finally caught up with them, and the rest of their team just weren't able to pick up the slack. Despite strong performances by Nazem Kadri, Andrew Ladd and Blake Wheeler, a floundering Tuukka Rask buried the Buffalo. As for Moscow, a number of strong performances were overshadowed by the clinic put on by Braden Holtby, whose 2 game 2W, 0.98GAA, .962sv%, 1SO performance resurrected the Red Army after Frederik Andersen's mid-week 6GA, .769sc% stinker almost sunk the team's championship hopes.
Moscow advances to host Vegas in a 2-week, underdog #4 vs #6 championship match-up for the Wuest Memorial Trophy.
