Once I buy out Johansson, that's $2 off my cap I cannot get back. You cannot trade a player you bought out or get that $2 back. Trading Johasson, releasing Hart, then signing a free agent was my plan. That maximizes the cap space I free up in this situation. I've been pursuing trades for the past 2 weeks. If I couldn't find a suitor for Johansson, my last resort would be to buy him out.
I'm not sure why I need to justify my actions, especially in this public setting while trying to gear up for the playoffs, when this is a perfectly legal move. I'll extend the offer to anyone here: If Hart's placeholder spot on my roster is that offensive, or if you would like an asset, let me know and we can trade Johansson to clear up the roster spot.

I'm not sure why I need to justify my actions, especially in this public setting while trying to gear up for the playoffs, when this is a perfectly legal move. The legality of the move is the point and is why we're having a public discussion. The FAIR rule was not designed to allow people to use it for players charged with felonies. It was for injured players or players who were out of the lineup unexpectedly through no fault of their own as I listed earlier. Hart is out of the lineup because of his actions, however far in the past they may have been. Our discussion is whether he should remain eligible for a FAIR replacement in our league. I see no reason why he should and since the goalie you've chosen as his FAIR replacement is also hurt and not playing at the moment I see no reason why we shouldn't drop both Gibson and Hart from your roster immediately. That's my opinion, nothing more, and I'm 8.33% of this league so I have no power to do anything other than voice my opinion which I have done and will leave it at that.

I misspoke, I have no problem discussing the legality. But there is financial benefit to doing it the way I'm trying to do it rather than buy him out, and I'd rather not have to explain it publicly and give potential trade partners more leverage.

Aside: I had originally mislabeled Hart's FAIR Replacement as Jonathan Quick, while it's actually John Gibson. Sorry for any confusion there, and it's been revised in the thread.

I've been pursuing trades for the past 2 weeks. If I couldn't find a suitor for Johansson, my last resort would be to buy him out. Hart is gone. $12 of cap space is back into Tampa's pocket. If Tampa already has 3 term goalies, we allow an exemption for him to be able to sign whoever he has as the replacement for Hart. Only the current replacement player can be signed while being exempt from the term goalie allowance. Otherwise, he can use the cash to do whatever. Including signing any goalie, the catch though being that a different goalie would have to fit into the 3 term goalie rule. At this point in time, I think our best course of action is to give Michael/Tampa Bay an opportunity to make a deal, like he's already been working towards himself. Barring that, if need be, we'll have a 24-hr poll before the end of this current match, involving the non-playoff teams, about implementing Alex/Morweena's solution.

The issue has been resolved, so is a closed matter for now. I'm thankful that it was able to be settled in an organic nature, and that league action was not required. Michael (Tampa Bay) was put in a tough place here, and I really appreciate him and Jason (Portland) coming together to figure out a solution.
I know this was a sensitive situation, so I appreciate everyone's involvement, patience, and understanding. Fantasy hockey is supposed to be an escape, and this situation is not exactly something that any of us want to have to confront in that pastime.
Unfortunately, sometimes the negative aspects of real-life bleeds through, and I admire the fact that the DHL didn't turn a blind eye to it, despite it being an uncomfortable situation. I'm glad we were able to come together as a league, navigate the rough waters, and come out on the other side of it. Thank you.
Hopefully we can look ahead to the upcoming Roster Deadline and Wuest Memorial Trophy Playoffs from here on out.
